Structure of the examination
The exam consists of a written and an oral part.
In the A1 examination, test takers must complete tasks involving all skills. The first part consists of reading, listening and language elements, with task types such as multiple-choice questions or matching tasks. In the writing and speaking section, test takers are given a variety of prompts (e.g. pictures) and have to respond, expressing themselves either in writing or orally. In the oral part, the test taker interacts with a partner as well as with the examiner.

This examination is available as a paper-based exam. It can NOT be taken as a partial examination.

What can learners at CEFR level A1 do?
The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) defines six levels of competence: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2.
Learners at A1 level are able to understand and use familiar, everyday expressions and very simple sentences aimed at satisfying specific needs.
They can introduce themselves and others and ask other people questions about themselves, as well as answer such questions themselves.
They can communicate in a simple way if the examiners speak slowly and clearly and are willing to help.
